Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is estimated to affect about 32.5 million US adults. Currently, OA pain medications include anti-inflammatory drugs, gabapentinoids or opioids in spite of their serious side-effects such as gastrointestinal problems and addiction. Local anesthetics (LA) are non-addictive, however, has short duration of action. Here, we studied the efficacy of periarticular vs intraarticular administration of LA to provide prolonged anesthetic/analgesic effect using an OA rodent model.
