Discover BIO-FOODIS, the next generation solution for understanding animal feeding behavior with unmatched ease and accuracy. Designed for research teams who demand reliable, high-quality data, this compact system continuously monitors both solid and liquid consumptionin rats, delivering a complete picture of eating and drinking patterns over time. Its interchangeable hopper and bottle modules let you customize diets and protocols effortlessly, whether exploring free-feeding habits, choice preferences, or controlled intake scenarios. From nutrition research to metabolic and addiction studies, it’s your all-in-one tool for fast, precise, and disruption-free monitoring.

The Rat model was developed in collaboration with Dr Denis lab from UMR 0914 PNCA, INRAE, Paris-Saclay. The mice model is currently under development.

Each animal is placed in an individual transparent “home” cage, spacious enough to provide comfortable housing over extended periods without stress (acquisition limited to 48 hours). The cage can be equipped with up to four interchangeable sensor modules - either food hoppers or drinking bottles - offering complete flexibility to suit the requirements of any study. Animals may have ad libitum or manual restricted access to both food and liquid (non-automatised). When needed, hoopers can be blocked by fitting a grid or by simply rotating them out of reach.

High-precision sensors (± 0.05 g) ensure every consumption event is recorded with precise accuracy. The system operates continuously for up to 48 hours, and food or liquid can be refilled at any time during the experiment without disturbing the animal or interrupting data collection. All measurements are recorded in real-time, building a complete picture of feeding and drinking behaviors, from overall daily intake to fine-scale changes in meal patterns.

The associated software displays intake metrics as they happen, offering immediate insight into feeding behavior dynamics. For greater analytical precision, the software automatically segments events into “Meals” or “Snacks” for food and “Drinks” or “Snips” for liquids, using adjustable thresholds to ensure accuracy analysis of both macro- and micro-feeding behaviors. This makes BIO-FOODIS a powerful tool for research in nutrition, addiction, metabolic disorders, and beyond.
